The Fragrance: 1173 opens with gorgeous purple lilac and the juicy sweetness of the orange-red gooseberry of Europe. Underneath this, almost hidden, is a fierce sensuality, earthy and balsamic with hints of wood and dry spice, the lurking threat of power. The scent is fresh, subtly complex, and swirls with magic.

The Story: 1173 is the year a sorceress named Yennefer of Vengerberg was born. She was born with physical deformities and her father hated this, and her, blaming her mother for it. He beat her and eventually abandoned her and her mother. Her mother then began to beat her, too.

Because she had both human and elf blood, Yennefer had magical abilities. At quite a young age, she was taken into a school for sorceresses and trained. During her time at the school, she went through a bone-realigning magic that was incredibly painful. It got rid of her deformities, but it did not erase her trauma.

Yennefer wears a scent made of Lilac and Gooseberries as a kind of spell, possibly to make her appear more attractive, possibly for deeper reasons.

From The Witcher book series created by Andrzej Sapkowski, Yennefer's Lilac and Gooseberry scent is a compelling part of the story. As such, many people have created this scent in real life, all trying to capture Yennefer in some way.

I chose to call this scent 1173 because it is about Yennefer's whole story, her whole life, all of her trauma and her power and her vulnerbaility, turmoil, goodness, and rage. She is complex. So many creators have focused on her being "alluring". But I wanted us to really see her, to get to know her through this scent - to learn how beautiful true power can be.

As with all of my fragrances, this scent is magically potent. It's main use is protective, sorcerous, and entrancing.

This scent is so compelling and beautiful. One of my all time favorite things I have ever smelled.
